Copy Editing vs. Proofreading

Copy Editing:

Editing with a focus on style, consistency, spelling, grammar, syntax and punctuation. Text hasn’t reached the design stage yet, so edits are done directly to the document or left as comments.

Proofreading:

Reading to find minor spelling, punctuation or spacing errors. Depending on your type of project, the text is now set in its design layout. Edits are done on a PDF with comments added through Adobe Creative. Proofreading is the last polish on your copy before it’s ready to publish.
